Review of the Christian Standard Bible

* These are my honest thoughts and opinions, no one is paying me for them. *

A while back I wrote about why I preferred the English Standard Version (ESV). Today I would like to tell you why I switched. First let me say that the two most important things about the Bible are that you read it and you understand it. If you aren’t reading it or understanding it then you can’t live by it.

I watched a presentation a couple of weeks ago on the Christian Standard Bible. The goal was to preserve accuracy without sacrificing readability. This means that it is very close to the original manuscripts, but most people can read and understand it.

As an example, let’s look at Romans 12: 2.

KJV = “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

This is the CSB. “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

I think we can agree that they are similar, but the CSB is far easier to read. If you want to read more before you buy one, it is available on the YouVersion app. You can even compare it to other translations.
